SOUTH Sydney coach Michael Maguire has backed halfback Adam Reynolds to fire against Brisbane on Friday amid speculation the Rabbitohs are interested in representative stars James Maloney and Cooper Cronk.

Reynolds sparked fear through the South Sydney camp on Monday when he was unable to front up for the team’s afternoon field session.

The former NSW playmaker was spotted with his left knee heavily strapped.

But speaking at Sydney Airport prior to leaving for Brisbane on Thursday afternoon, Maguire confirmed Reynolds was a certain starter for the crucial round 14 clash against the Broncos.

“Earlier in the week he just took a bit of a knock, but he is fine,” Maguire said.

“He actually trained really well over the last couple of times and obviously he is a big part of what we...

Bryson Goodwin quits South Sydney Rabbitohs as Alex Johnston talks continue - dailytelegraph.com.au

WITH Bryson Goodwin confirming his departure and Aaron Gray set to follow suit, South Sydney hope Alex Johnston won’t join the backline exodus out of Redfern.

Goodwin passed on a one-year extension at Souths for a two-year deal with UK Super League side Leigh.

The signing of Dane Gagai to a big-money four-year deal signalled significant impending changes to the Rabbitohs’ outside backs stocks.

Rabbitohs v Titans: Schick Preview - NRL.COM

Schick Hydro Preview: South Sydney Rabbitohs v Gold Coast Titans
ANZ Stadium
Friday, 7.50pm

Stranger things have happened.

With a casualty ward that makes an episode of Kings Cross ER look positively pedestrian and three of their most influential players sequestered away on representative duty, the Titans will send a team to Sydney to face the Rabbitohs on Friday night that many of their fans would even find unrecognisable.

With their season on the line and a South Sydney team equally desperate to maintain some level of contact with the top eight, the Titans have been installed rank outsiders but need look back only three years to find inspiration.

South Sydney fans have fond recollections of the 2014 season but on a mid-Origin Monday night in July a bit-part team from the Gold Coast came to the big smoke and knocked off the team who would be champions.

Maurice Blair and Daniel...

South Sydney Rabbitohs coach Michael Maguire backs ex-NSW Blue Adam Reynolds to revive career - dailytelegraph.com.au

THIS time last year, South Sydney halfback Adam Reynolds was preparing to play Origin for the Blues.

Twelve months later, Reynolds is battling to produce his finest form in a struggling Souths side.

Rabbitohs coach Michael Maguire even concedes some of the criticism aimed at his halfback has been justified.

However, he has full faith Reynolds can return to his best — starting in Friday’s must-win clash against the Gold Coast at ANZ Stadium.

“We all have challenges in and around the game at some stages and I guess people would be looking at him (Adam) and saying that,” Maguire said.

“And rightly so in some areas of his game, but he is one player that has put a lot of time in over the last couple of months to turn that around.

“And that happens in people’s careers. But if he keeps sticking to...

NRL 2017: South Sydney Rabbitohs re-sign local junior Alex Johnston - Fox Sports

SOUTHS speedster Alex Johnston won’t be leaving Redfern any time soon after re-signing with the club until the end of 2020.

Johnston had been linked to an exit from his junior club in order to land a regular NRL fullback role, with the Dragons and Sharks both understood to have expressed interest in the one-time Kangaroos flyer.

His retention bolsters a backline that will add Queensland regular Dane Gagai to its ranks next reason, but will also farewell veteran Bryson Goodwin to Super League and most likely Aaron Gray to Cronulla.

South Sydney Rabbitohs beat Gold Coast Titans 36-20 after a second-half surge - ABC Online

Cody Walker scores for South Sydney.

South Sydney has recovered from 14 points down to overpower a depleted Gold Coast, end a three-game losing streak and keep their NRL finals ambitions alive.

Rising star Angus Crichton and winger Alex Johnston scored five tries between them, while full-back Cody Walker grabbed one himself and set up another in the 36-20 win on Friday.

The Rabbitohs were down 20-10 at half-time but switched on the afterburners to cross for five unanswered tries in the second half and consign the Titans to their fourth straight defeat.

The win lifts the Rabbitohs back to within two points of the top eight, while Gold Coast, who was missing 11 first graders due to State of Origin and injury, falls back to 14th spot.

Youth sparks Rabbitohs revival - NRL.COM

South Sydney coach Michael Maguire believes it was some of the youngest Rabbitohs in his line-up that helped spark the side's 36-20 win over the Titans in veteran John Sutton's 300th club game at ANZ Stadium on Friday night.

Headlined by a barnstorming hat-trick to back-rower Angus Crichton on the right edge, fellow young forwards Tyrell Fuimaono and Zane Musgrove also produced a high work rate in the 16-point win.

Crichton was unsurprisingly the man of the moment after producing one of the best individual performances by a forward of the season with three tries, four line-breaks and over 200 metres recorded.

"The first couple of years he's had quite a number of injuries but I've always seen signs he was going to develop into a great player," Maguire said of Crichton.

"The fact he missed two years with injury he probably missed learning the game but he's spent some time with our...

Former Yabbie hat-tricks for Rabbitohs - The Young Witness

Former Young Yabbies and Young Cherrypicker and current South Sydney back-rower Angus Crichton played a massive game of football last Friday with a hat-trick that led the Rabbitohs to a come-from-behind victory against the Titans.

Former Young Yabbies and current South Sydney back-rower Angus Crichton played a massive game of football last Friday with a hat-trick that led the Rabbitohs to a come-from-behind victory against the Titans.

With Sam Burgess injured it was the former Young player’s job to step into the position that allowed Souths to keep their top-eight hopes alive.

But it was the rampaging performance of Crichton that was the talk of the town, the 21-year-old Young –gun terrorising the Titans to show why he has been earmarked as a future representative player.

"I've had a lot of time with Angus now," Rabbitohs coach Michael Maguire said.

Rabbitohs Ready To Play Crushers - Fiji Sun Online

Ravoravo Rabbitohs are adamant of another positive result as they take on Lautoka Crushers in the elimination round of the Vodafone Cup Nadi/Lautoka Zone competition on Saturday.

The elimination rounds will be played at the AFL grounds in Nadi. Rabbitohs had defeated Nadi Eels 18-12 in the Nadi Aviators final last Saturday and are now optimistic of another win.

Rabbitohs manager Sitiveni Vuniyaya said yesterday their players are injury free and ready for Saturday’s battle.

“For the first three days of this week the boys had their recovery session, we are really impressed with the bonding between the players,” he said.

“We’ll take one game at a time and treat all our games as the final. We need to keep up with the momentum from where we left off last Saturday.

“We don’t have major injuries. We believe in these boys and we’re optimistic they will produce positive results.”

Rabbitohs captain Josateki Sovau said the side would need to lift their performance against the Crushers knowing this would be a do-or-die battle.

He said the players had laid the platform from last week's final win in Nadi and were confident of a wonderful outing today.

"We used the Nadi final as our platform for this game and we cannot afford to commit the same mistakes we committed last week," said Sovau.

"This is a crucial encounter and the boys are eager to stamp their mark.

"I believe this competition is a another step up from the local competition and we are ready for the battle."
