Essendon drugs saga figure Dean Robinson gets job with Sydney Roosters...but with a catch - Sporting News

Sydney Roosters have given a job to former Essendon high-performance boss Dean Robinson - a key figure in the Bombers drug scandal that rocked the AFL.

Robinson, the brother of Roosters coach Trent, has begun consulting for the fitness department of the rugby league club but under some conditions from the NRL - including being banned from working with sport supplements.

Nicknamed 'The Weapon', Robinson was the superior to banned sports scientist Stephen Dank - but was never charged by ASADA during the investigation.

Sydney Roosters grab the points at Campbelltown with 40-18 win over Wests Tigers - ABC Online

Mitchell Pearce of the Roosters scores a try against Wests Tigers at Campbelltown on June 11, 2017.

Mitchell Pearce set up a try and scored a double of his own in the Sydney Roosters' 40-18 flogging of the Wests Tigers on Sunday.

Pearce was one of three players to bag a double in the win, as the Roosters provisionally bumped themselves up to second on the NRL ladder, above Cronulla on for-and-against.

A day after chief Queensland playmaker Johnathan Thurston starred in his return from a shoulder injury for the Cowboys, New South Wales half-back Pearce responded in kind at Campbelltown.

Criticised for his short kicking game in the Blues' 28-4 Origin I win over Queensland, Pearce forced two line dropouts in the first 20 minutes and set up the Roosters' opening try for Blake Ferguson when he booted across field in his first game back from concussion.

NRL season 2017: Blake Ferguson set to remain at Sydney Roosters - The Sydney Morning Herald

Two months ago Blake Ferguson was on the outer at the Sydney Roosters, but now it appears he will remain at the tri-colours. Earlier in the season the Roosters indicated to the off-contract Blues winger that he might not be part of their plans, but things have since changed. There had been concerns over Ferguson's form, but in particular there were concerns over some of his off-field behaviour that left some at the Roosters questioning his position. Leading into Origin I, Ferguson admitted he would sit down with the club after the opening game of the series to discuss his future. Those conversations have happened but Ferguson has been left under no illusions as to the behavioural standards the Roosters expect from him. Ferguson has escaped the headlines in 2017 but there have been plenty of rumblings about some of his off-field choices this year. Ferguson has been going through some...

How Sydney Roosters star Mitchell Pearce turned the corner and ... - The Advertiser

THE Sydney Roosters call him “The Conductor”, the one who sets them up, gets them going and controls the game.

At 28, Mitchell Pearce has grown up both on and off the field and is playing career best rugby league.

He has overcome persistent controversies away from the game to cement himself as one of the NRL’s best halfbacks and already with one premiership and State of Origin experience his coach says he’s still getting better. “I’ve known Pearcey for a long time and this has been his best start to a year that I think he’s had in his career,” Roosters coach Trent Robinson said.

“He’s had some big seasons in the past, getting to a grand final and winning, but this is the best start to a season he’s had both as an individual and controlling the team.

“I feel like he’s in a really good space, the Origin on Wednesday night will be a big milestone for him if they can win that game.”

Roosters and Storm endorse Adelaide Oval for future NRL fixtures - The Advertiser

THE Sydney Roosters and Melbourne Storm have endorsed the redeveloped Adelaide Oval as an outstanding venue for NRL matches and said they would be open to coming back.

A crowd of 21,492 was treated to an enthralling contest on Saturday night as Sydney came from 12-24 down to force the game into extra time, then win with a Mitchell Pearce golden-point field-goal.

Roosters coach Trent Robinson said the result made the visit an absolute success for his club.

“We’ve been really excited being here, it’s been great to see the support and a lot of Storm and Roosters fans travel,” Robinson said.

“I think Adelaide and South Australia got what they wanted out of it as well. They got a good spectacle and also a lot of value out of people visiting the city and regions around.

“Sport is a great vehicle for not only entertainment but also life around it and bringing a bit of rugby league with it...

Roosters v Storm Adelaide Oval NRL | Adelaide Now - The Advertiser

SYDNEY Roosters chief executive Joe Kelly is confident the NRL can gain enough traction in South Australia for an Adelaide Oval game to become an annual event.

Saturday’s match between the Roosters and Melbourne Storm was sold by Sydney to the South Australian government and is also seen as a precursor for the state to bid for the hugely popular State-of-Origin clash in 2020.

But Kelly said the core of the idea to take an annual game to Adelaide was neither about the government’s cash nor the ambition to one day have a State of Origin match here — it was about expanding and growing the game in a starved market.

NRL: Shaun Kenny-Dowall released by Sydney Roosters - New Zealand Herald

The Sydney Roosters have released veteran centre Shaun Kenny-Dowall from the remainder of his contract effective immediately.

Kenny-Dowall was stood down by the club in May after he was allegedly caught in possession of cocaine at a nightclub in Sydney.

"Shaun has made a significant contribution to the Roosters' on-field success across his 13 years at the club, and for that, we thank him," said Sydney Roosters CEO Joe Kelly.

"The club wishes Shaun all the very best in the future," he added.

The Kiwi international has played 224 matches for the Tricolours since making his debut in 2007.

The 29-year old has scored 121 tries for the club, behind only former teammate Anthony Minichiello, and was part of the 2010 and 2013 grand final sides.

He becomes the second player to be release by the Roosters in the last week after utility forward Paul Carter was let go last...
