Cooper Cronk deal means no turning back for Sydney Roosters and Mitchell Pearce - Daily Telegraph

THE Sydney Roosters should do the right thing and give Mitchell Pearce permission to negotiate with rival clubs for next season.

You don’t pay a disgruntled footballer $800,000 a season if he doesn’t want to be there.

There are two sides to this story.

This is the player who has won the Roosters’ highest honour — the Jack Gibson Medal — three times.

He has played 238 games for the Roosters and always wanted to be a one-club player.

The Roosters feel they have been extremely loyal to the NSW State of Origin halfback in dealing with a number of off-field dramas in his decade at the club.

This is true and Pearce fully respects that.

Sydney Roosters NRL 2018: Mitchell Pearce contract, Cooper Cronk ... - NEWS.com.au

SYDNEY Roosters co-captain Boyd Cordner is confident the playing group won’t be unsettled by Mitchell Pearce’s potential departure following Cooper Cronk’s recruitment to the club.

Pearce’s future at the Roosters remains up in the air after the club on Monday confirmed the prize signing of Cronk on a two-year deal beginning next season.

The long-time Roosters halfback is away on holidays as he mulls whether to honour the final two years of his contract or request permission to play elsewhere.

Asked if Pearce’s possible exit could upset his teammates, Cordner said during Kangaroos camp on Wednesday: “I don’t think so.

“At the end of the day it’s Pearcey’s choice. He’s going away now to get away from everything and think about it.

“I’m here to support Pearcey and respect his decision whichever way he wants to go but at this stage it looks like he’ll be a Rooster.”

Cordner reiterated...

Steve Roach blasts Sydney Roosters for insulting silence on Mitchell Pearce's future - The Sydney Morning Herald

A high-profile supporter of Mitchell Pearce has rubbished suggestions that he could learn from Cooper Cronk as a mature-age understudy at the Sydney Roosters, saying the club's pursuit of the Kangaroos No.7 was a "big kick in the guts" for their long-time halfback.

The Roosters are expected to escalate their bid to lure Cronk to the eastern suburbs with chairman Nick Politis arriving back from overseas on Sunday and planning to meet with Roosters coach Trent Robinson early this week to discuss making a play for the 33-year-old and how his signing would affect others at the club.

Mitchell Pearce to leave NRL side Sydney Roosters after interest in ... - NEWS.com.au

MITCHELL Pearce is reportedly putting his name on the open market as the Sydney Roosters prepare to unveil the marquee signing of Cooper Cronk.

The decision from both Cronk and the Roosters isn’t expected to be announced until early next week, however Pearce has expressed his desire to find a new home.

After a 238 game career with the Roosters, the signing of Cronk would relegate Pearce out of the halfback position he has made his own with the Sydney team.

An explosive report in The Daily Telegraph has stated Pearce’s displeasure with the moves being made behind closed doors.

“He’s very upset,” said one of Pearce’s closest associates.

“He loves the Roosters and always wanted to be a one-club player.”

As reports of unrest filtered throughout the league, plenty of teams have begun testing the waters on potentially poaching Pearce away.

The Manly Sea Eagles have emerged as the early...
