Sherrin Racing to Defend Home Turf

Sherrin Racing will be aiming to fend off the interstate invaders when Round Four of the Dunlop Series takes place at Winton Motor Raceway in rural Victoria this weekend.

Run by Melbourne-based MW Motorsport, the Sherrin Ford has been one of the pace-setters so far this year, winning a total of three races in the hands of opening round pilot Chaz Mostert and his subsequent successor Steve Owen.

The Sherrin Ford will head to Winton armed with lessons learnt at a recent test at the venue that saw MW Motorsport's other two entires, including that of series leader Dale Wood, find further gains.

“It's always good to have a test at your home circuit before racing there,” team principal Matthew White said.

“By running two cars at the test we were able to achieve what we wanted to on track without diluting our preparation efforts for the race weekend.

“There were a few areas that we wanted...

Jones: Practice and Qualifying Key

176329 jones-practice-and-qualifying-key

Andrew Jones, the most successful Dunlop Series driver at Winton Raceway, says qualifying will be the most important factor in this weekend’s Winton 360.

The Brad Jones Racing pilot is the only driver to have won two rounds at Winton back-to-back in 2003 and 2004 and holds the current qualifying and race lap record set in ‘04.

He’s also tied with Paul Dumbrell for the second highest number of race wins at the venue with three – topped only by Owen Kelly who has four.

For the first time in 2013, Dunlop Series qualifying will be held over two 20-minute sessions instead of a single 30-minute session, was a decision made to ensure all drivers have a level opportunity on a short, winding track given the large number of entrants.

Jones feels the change in qualifying format will put more importance on getting the most out of the car early in the weekend and ensuring a spot in the top half...

Douglas: This is our Chance

176330 douglas-this-is-our-chance

“I’m not one to make bold statements, especially before an event,” Image Racing’s Taz Douglas explained. “But quite honestly, this weekend has to be our best chance yet to figure in the outright results.”

Coming into the team’s ‘home’ event, Douglas believes his Dunlop Series ARVO Falcon will be one of the outright contenders, especially off the back of a solid test session at Winton just a week ago. He currently sits 10th in the Championship.

“We were running with a number of other DVS teams as well as some of the Victorian based ‘main game’ cars, so there was a real mix.

“The circuit was a bit different than what we normally experience, and I can’t say it was comfortable early, but by the end of the day we were putting in some seriously quick laps and I found the car more comfortable than it has been all year. That’s promising heading into the weekend.”

After the frustrations of...

By: Eggleston Motorsport

Kiwi driver Ant Pedersen will step into the #38 Marque Management/Eggleston Motorsport Triple Eight Built Holden in the Dunlop Series round at Winton Motor Raceway this weekend, competing alongside Jack Perkins.

Though he hasn't raced in the Dunlop Series since 2010, Pedersen impressed on his debut that year where he placed equal third for the round at the Clipsal 500.

He is no stranger to V8 Supercars and is currently contesting the V8 SuperTourers series in New Zealand, sitting second in the Championship behind Greg Murphy.

“It’s been a while since I’ve raced in the Development Series, so I’m really pumped to run this weekend at Winton in a V8 Supercar again with such an up and coming team,” Pedersen said.

“Obviously I am not in the championship race, but am really looking forward to getting behind the wheel of one of...

Perkins Builds for Big PIRTEK Cup Chance

Long-time V8 Supercar racer Jack Perkins has his final test before the PIRTEK Enduro Cup in this weekend’s Dunlop Series at Winton Motor Raceway in regional Victoria.

The son of the great Larry Perkins has a star pairing with Fujitsu Racing GRM’s rookie sensation Scott McLaughlin for the endurance races, so time behind the wheel at Winton is critical.

Perkins is working on a deal to ensure he is on the grid at Winton to follow an impressive event victory at Queensland Raceway in the last Dunlop Series event.

The round has the largest field of the year, with 34 cars competing at the Victorian circuit, and the qualifying format has been split into two halves to accommodate the drivers.

The first leg of the PIRTEK Enduro Cup is less than a month away at the Wilson Security Sandown 500 from September 13-15.

“Right now I’m trying to win races, get plenty of seat time and prepare as best I...

By: Evans Motorsport Group

Daniel Gaunt will take over the Evans Motorsport Group ex-FPR Falcon for the remainder of the 2013 Dunlop V8 Supercar Series, stepping into the Ozstaff supported car for the first time at the weekend's Winton 360.

Funding issues have forced talented rookie Kristian Lindbom to the sidelines for this round.

"We were very happy with the job that Kristian did for us," team boss Josh Evans said. "But as much as he's been working really hard to get the money together to complete the season, the commercial reality is that it's very hard to secure funding at this time.

"The main game teams are finding it difficult so a Dunlop Series rookie is always going to be behind the eight ball.

"Kristian's an important part of our team, he'll be working with us this weekend and we'll work hard with him to try and get him back in a car for...

Zukanovic Would Welcome Longer Races

Dunlop Series veteran Marcus Zukanovic has added his two cents to the ongoing discussions on driving standards, race formats and structure of the Championship.

Zukanovic has the third most Dunlop Series round starts behind Aaron McGill and Geoff Emery and feels a revision of race distances could help improve driving standards.

“I think Casey Stoner raised a good point saying that the races aren’t long enough,” said Zukanovic (read Stoner's comments here).

“Guys are going out and trying to do too much too soon and are making bad judgement calls on passing manoeuvres – I guess that’s where the level of standard drops.”

The Victorian also believes it’s a matter of driver development and adjusting to the series but concedes there is no easy answer.

“It’s each individual person. They need to be relaxed a little and have a bit better thought process.

“Some of the young guys are probably a...

Maiden Victory for Heimgartner

Sunday 28 July 2013 14:55
By: V8 Supercars

Finance Ezi Racing’s Andre Heimgartner claimed his maiden race win at the Coates Hire Ipswich 360 today.

A reverse top 10 grid placed the young Kiwi driver on ARMOR ALL Pole Position with Go Karts Go driver Drew Russell beside him.

Russell beat the teenager off the start, but Heimgartner had resecured the lead by the second lap and drove home to his first win when the race was called at its cut-off time.

Passing showers caused the delayed start which ultimately cut the race short, with drivers completing eight of what was meant to be a 14 lap race.

Daniel Gaunt followed into third in his Marque Management Holden.

Local Ipswich driver Ash Walsh had another consistent performance finishing fourth for the second time this weekend.

Championship leader Dale Wood finished in eighth after not making any ground with the reverse grid and...

Action Off the Start in Dunlop Race One

Saturday 27 July 2013 15:27
By: V8 Supercars

Pit lane was busy in Race One for the Dunlop Series at the Coates Hire Ipswich 360.

Championship leader Dale Wood made a clean start from ARMOR ALL Pole Position which saw him wrap up his second race win for 2013 and remain on top of the leaderboard.

World MotoGP Champion Casey Stoner wasn’t so lucky after contact with Geoff Emery saw the Dunlop Series debutant in almost the identical scenario he found himself three weeks ago in Townsville.

Qualifying his best of the year in seventh, Stoner suffered at the hands of bad luck after what could have been a promising start on his home track, to finish in 17th.

Emery was given a pit lane penalty for the contact with Stoner which saw the Red Bull Racing Australia driver spin out on lap three. Emery was awarded a second drive through pit lane after breeching the 40 kilometre speed limit...

Jim Stone to Engineer Miedecke

Friday 26 July 2013 15:39
By: V8 Supercars

Dunlop Series frontrunner George Miedecke has called on Jim Stone to fill in as engineer for this weekend’s Coates Hire Ipswich 360.

Regular engineer, Paul Ceprnich, is unavailable this weekend because of World Endurance Championship commitments but Miedecke has faith in his fill-in engineer.

“It’s not too bad to say Jim Stone is going to be engineering me,” he said.

“I won’t lie, I’d rather have Paul here because we have a good relationship going on – he knows what I like and don’t like but if you could have anyone fill in you’d have Jimmy Stone.

“We tested knowing Paul wasn’t going to be here so we’re as well prepared as we possibly could be for this eventuality.”

The Matt Stone Racing Falcon of Miedecke is a former Lee Holdsworth Stone Brothers Racing car and Stone has been involved in the team all year.

“We’ve had him on the radio...

Wood Quickest, Stoner Drops to Sixth

Friday 26 July 2013 13:58
By: V8 Supercars

Championship leader Dale Wood led Steve Owen and Andre Heimgartner home in the second and final practice session for the Dunlop Series this afternoon at the Coates Hire Ipswich 360.

The top two will jump straight out of their vehicles and into the Car of the Future main series V8 Supercars they are steering as co-drivers for the Endurance Cup for Dick Johnson Racing and Ford Performance Racing.

Rounding out the top five were Ashley Walsh and Kristian Lindbom, and fresh off recording the day’s fastest time in the earlier session, Casey Stoner finished this session sixth, despite recording a faster time than in the earlier session with a 1min10.99sec.

“It’s a pleasant feeling to come to a track we actually know and we really enjoyed it out there,” Stoner said.

“We’re improving with every race and at a track we’ve spent a lot of time at...
