The line-up was announced at a special press event in Milan, Italy on Saturday, where the team revealed further details of their new title sponsorship deal with Alfa Romeo, including a revised red and white livery concept for next season’s car.

Leclerc has risen rapidly through the single-seater ranks, winning the GP3 title last year before his F1 championship triumph this season. He first tested with Sauber’s engine suppliers Ferrari in 2016, as well as participating in four F1 Friday practice sessions with the Ferrari-powered Haas squad. This season he tested with both Ferrari and Sauber, and enjoyed another four F1 practice outings with the latter.

Formula 1 Evaluating Miami as a Grand Prix Venue - The Drive - The Drive

It has been months since the last development in the story of Liberty Media's efforts to expand the Formula 1 calendar. Turkey, Sweden, Denmark, Portugal, Argentina, and Vietnam have manifested themselves as candidates, however unlikely, for Grand Prix hosts. Options within the United States include cities such as Long Beach, The Big Apple, and Sin City, two of which have briefly hosted the sport in the past. Now, another American urban center is elbowing its way into the circle, as Miami Herald reports that the sport's commercial rights holder, Liberty Media, has sent envoys to Miami to meet with local officials about the possibility of bringing Formula 1 to the city by 2020.

Six potential street circuit routes have been drawn up, utilizing landmarks such as American Airlines Arena, home of the Miami Heat NBA team, Dodge Island, Biscayne Boulevard, two bridges over Biscayne Bay, and...

Formula 1 set to return to two-stop grands prix in 2018 - F1 - Autosport - autosport.com

Pirelli is confident that Formula 1 will return to two-stop races next year, following positive early testing of its 2018 tyres in Abu Dhabi this week.

F1's tyre supplier is expanding its range of compounds, as well as making them softer, in a bid to try to introduce more strategic variance next season.

This year, because of uncertainty about the speed leap of F1's faster 2017 cars, Pirelli went too conservative - and it meant 15 of the 20 races were in effect one-stop races.

One of Pirelli's targets is for there to be an average of two tyre changes per race.

It believes that in light of some encouraging findings from the testing this week, it is now on course to deliver that next season.

Pirelli's F1 racing manager Mario Isola said: "Considering all the range is one step softer, plus we have the hyper-soft, we now have the option to go soft enough to target two stops.

"I believe...

F1 Red Bull: Christian Horner calls Lewis Hamilton foolish for ... - NEWS.com.au

LEWIS Hamilton would be “very foolish to underestimate” Daniel Ricciardo in the F1 2018 world championship battle, according to Red Bull team principal Christian Horner.

Hamilton won his fourth world championship this season before labelling himself, Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso and Ricciardo’s teammate Max Verstappen as the four strongest drivers currently in Formula 1.

The Mercedes driver was quoted in Motor Sport Magazine saying: “The four strongest drivers I think are me, Fernando, Sebastian, Max. I really hope we are all in the fight next year.”

But Horner thinks Ricciardo should also be on Hamilton’s list and feels the Australian will be firmly in the title mix if Red Bull can provide a championship-contending car.

“Lewis would be very foolish to underestimate Daniel,” Horner told Sky Sports News.

“He’s a phenomenal driver, he’s arguably the best overtaker in the business....

Former Formula One world champion Nico Rosberg has revealed he is "definitely interested" in being the latest big name to get involved with Formula E.

The German driver retired after winning the title with Mercedes in 2016, but has remained involved in the sport as an agent via his client, Robert Kubica.

Rosberg was at the opening weekend of Formula E in Hong Kong as an ambassador for Hugo Boss, who are one of the sponsors of the competition.

He said: “I’m open to explore so let’s see what the possibilities are, but I’m definitely interested.

“I know quite a lot, I have been following it. It has an amazing future, a great future. It is on the right track and Alejandro [Agag] is awesome as well so he is going to do the right stuff.

“No [I don’t miss racing], for me it is really done. I’m totally fulfilled and I am really excited about these new steps that I am doing now.”

Red Bull 'desperately' needs engine gains - Eurosport.com

The team managed to win three races this season, with two coming late in the year courtesy of Max Verstappen in Malaysia and Mexico.

Since then, however, the team's performance fell away, with its performance in Brazil compromised by needing to detune the engines.

Pushed on why things were not much better in the Abu Dhabi finale, Horner suggested that the Yas Marina circuit hurt Red Bull more because of its long straights.

"Reliability is a key issue next year, but it is also about maintaining the chassis development that we have had during the second half of the year, and we need desperately the engine to concertina in performance," said Horner.

"Brazil is power sensitive, and in Abu Dhabi you could see Mercedes were in a class of their own. If you listened to their radio content, when they turn their engines up, you only had to look at the middle sector.

"They would go half a...

Ferrari's latest F1 diffuser changes explained - video - autosport.com

Ferrari tried out modifications to its Formula 1 diffuser during both the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend and the post-race test.

In this latest clip from weekly Motorsport.tv programme The Flying Lap, race-winning F1 designer Willem Toet tells Flying Lap technical expert Craig Scarborough about the way the changes are being tested.

"You try to generate as much suction at the back of the car as you can, where it connects to the diffuser, because that base drag will dictate the amount of suction you get underneath the flat floor of the car," says Toet.

He goes onto explain both the diffuser Ferrari raced, and the dramatically different version that was used on Kimi Raikkonen's car during Friday practice on the race weekend that also appeared in the test.

Toet ponders the reason for trying the new version of the diffuser, and whether it was the planned path for 2018 or if there might...

Debate of the Day: Was Sauber right to keep Ericsson?

The recent Alfa Romeo Sauber announcement may have pointed to Ferrari having enough of a say in the team's affairs to place two drivers of its choosing in the race setas for 2018, but that has not proven to be the case.

Sauber confirmed on Saturday at a launch event it would be retaining Marcus Ericsson alongside the incoming Ferrari youngster and Formula 2 champion Charles Leclerc in 2018, leaving the Italian marque's other hopeful, Antonio Giovinazzi, to take up a third driver role.

Ericsson has not scored any points in F1 since 2015, yet has been kept on in favour of previous teammates Felipe Nasr and Pascal Wehrlein amid reported links to the team's owners.

During the team launch presentation at Alfa Romeo’s museum in Milan, Sauber also unveiled its concept livery for next season with a predominantly white look with a red engine cover carrying the Alfa Romeo logo.

According to an article in the Miami Herald, executives and engineers representing Liberty Media met in November with Miami's mayor and the city's administrator of film and culture to discuss possible street routes in the city. A race in Miami would fit F1 boss's Chase Carey's vision of a second race in the U.S. at a "destination" city.

Miami film and culture administrator Vicente Betancourt said that the hope is to bring a race to Miami by 2020.

The Liberty Media contingent visiting Miami, according to the Herald report, included Sean Bratches, the ownership group's managing director of commercial operations.

2017 season review - Hamilton proves 'four-midable' - Formula 1

Early promise

One of the greatest aspects was that the signs were there right from the first day of testing in Barcelona, as word spread like a wildfire that Ferrari were ‘Quick’.

The Mercedes F1 W08 exuded all the elegance we have come to expect, its antecedents clear in every sleek, evolutionary line and every inch of its long wheelbase. It was a silver arrow, through and through.

The Ferrari SF70 was less pretty, somehow stubbier yet purposeful, with its completely different aerodynamic sidepods and bodywork adding its own unique stamp of thoroughbred toughness.

And, another great thing, it would transpire that the lap times that Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen recorded at the Circuit de Catalunya were representative. Mercedes hadn’t been sandbagging, and nor had Ferrari been grandstanding with low-fuel runs.

Headline news: Mercedes really did have a fight on their hands at...
