DAVID Reynolds’ ‘threat’ to slip Shane van Gisbergen a ‘Mickey Finn’ at the Supercars Gala Awards after their Race 25 barney made headlines at the Newcastle 500.

Fired up after getting tapped out of a likely podium finish — one which would have ensured a sizeable bonus payment from Erebus Motorsport’s sponsors — Reynolds unleashed in a post-race interview with Greg Murphy.

“You know, I’ve been watching a lot of Narcos and people have died for less,” Reynolds said.

Wood opens up on Supercars step back - Motorsport.com - Motorsport.com, Edition: Global

Dale Wood says he's hoping to bring some fresh enjoyment to his racing next season, as he scales back from a full-time Supercars drive and hits the co-driver market.

The former Super2 champion ended his career as a full-time Supercars driver at last weekend's Newcastle round, having confirmed back in October that he wouldn't continue beyond the end of this season.

It spells the end of a four-year stint in the main game, during which he drove for Brad Jones Racing, Nissan Motorsport, and most recently Erebus Motorsport.

Reflecting on the decision to step back from a full-time drive, Wood says the primary motivation is to ease the ongoing pressure of finding backing – which he hopes will help him enjoy his motor racing a bit more.

"A lot of people have said 'oh you're retiring', but I'm not retiring. I'm still relatively young," he told Motorsport.com.

"But for me, things weren't...

JAMIE Whincup blamed the pressures of winning the Supercars championship on the break up of his engagement, but his former fiancee has angrily hit back saying “enough is enough.”

Whincup collected the silverware for both the peer-voted Drivers’ Driver Award as well as the 2017 championship trophy at the Gala Awards this week.

During his acceptance speech he made a rare reference to his split with long-time partner Courtney Nicholson just prior to their wedding last December.

“I would have loved to have walked through the door with a wife tonight, but the reality is it’s the silverware or that,” Whincup said.

“It’s pretty scary. I had to make some big calls at the end of last year.

Jamie Whincup has won an unprecedented seventh Supercars title after Scott McLaughlin's championship dream turned to ruin during an epic finale in Newcastle.

The Holden superstar celebrated just his fourth win of the season as McLaughlin squandered a 78-point series lead and pole position with three penalties during yesterday's 250-kilometre race.

McLaughlin kept on fighting and got into a title-winning position, then was hit with a third penalty for what appeared to be a telling pass with three laps to go, with the 25-second penalty confirming Whincup's title by 21 points.

McLaughlin's flying start from pole position wasn't a portent of things to come. He was penalised for speeding on his first entry to pit lane early in the race.

Scott McLaughlin has capitalised on Jamie Whincup's heartbreak, with the Ford star poised to claim his first Supercars title after a dramatic race in Newcastle.

Whincup's quest for an unprecedented seventh championship is hanging by a thread after steering damage which  led to a 23rd-place finish in the penultimate race of the championship.

Starting from fifth on the grid  and 30 championship points ahead of polesitter McLaughlin, Whincup's Holden Commodore made contract with Michael Caruso's Nissan Altima on the opening lap.

Shortly after that Whincup narrowly avoided a three-car pile-up involving Dale Wood, Taz Douglas and Jason Bright which forced the safety car on to the track. But the halt in proceedings wasn't long enough to save Whincup.

Cardi B Reveals Nicki Minaj's Verse on "MotorSport" Was Different When She First Heard It - Complex

Cardi B stopped by The Norte Show on Capital Xtra on Tuesday, and was, as usual, an open book about most things. She discussed how she came to be featured on "MotorSport" alongside Migos and Nicki Minaj as well as her recent Grammy nominations. But the Bronx rapper got uncharacteristically cagey when the interviewer, Manny Norte, asked her about Nicki Minaj.

“Are you good with Nicki?” Norte asks.

“I spoke to her before, I saw her in person before,” Cardi replied. “We spoke about things,” she continued, somewhat awkwardly. “I don’t like getting into detail,” she said, before Norte interrupted her.

“When I heard the track, her verse wasn’t finished. It was not the verse that is on right now,” Cardi revealed. “Quavo told me to get on the song, and I just felt it was a perfect opportunity for me to be on a track that’s big like them.”

Cardi also displayed some refreshing self-awareness...

Whincup reveals 'scary' sacrifices in title triumph - Inside Sport

After being beaten to the championship last year by team-mate Shane van Gisbergen, in what was van Gisbergen’s first season with the Triple Eight team, Whincup came back strongly in 2017 to clinch a record seventh title.

He won the championship despite clearly not having the fastest car across the balance of the season, and despite only winning half as many races as the man he would defeat in the title battle, Scott McLaughlin.

Whincup told the gala event’s host Jess Yates he had made some "big calls" following his defeat at the end of last year.

Last December he split with fiancé, Courtney Nicholson, just prior to their planned wedding.

“Massive, massive sacrifices had to be made,” Whincup said.

“I would have loved to have walked through the door with a wife tonight, but the reality is it’s the silverware or that.

Alfa Romeo returns to F1 in Sauber partnership - Motorsport.com, Edition: Global

4318587 alfa-romeo-returns-to-f1-in-sauber-partnership-motorsport-com-edition-global

The Alfa Romeo name will return to Formula 1 in 2018 in partnership with Sauber and Ferrari.

The Swiss outfit will be known as the Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team from next year onwards, with the two companies entering into a multi-year agreement.

The deal will include "strategic, commercial and technological cooperation" and "the exchange of engineering and technical know-how", said a Sauber statement.

As reported by Motorsport.com last week, an Alfa tie-up was a key part of the negotiations for an enhanced partnership between Ferrari and Sauber.

Ferrari chairman Sergio Marchionne had made clear in recent months that he was keen to bring the Alfa name back to F1 for the first time since 1985.

"This agreement with the Sauber F1 team is a significant step in the reshaping of the Alfa Romeo brand, which will return to Formula 1 after an absence of more than 30 years," said Marchionne.

Isabelle Kranhold shows Newcastle motorsport fans Supercars aren't just for men - ABC Online

Isabelle Kranhold stands with arms folded in front of a car.

A Hunter Valley teenager will be in the middle of the action at the inaugural Newcastle 500 Supercars race this week, working with one team's pit crew.

Isabelle Kranhold, 19, is studying light vehicle mechanical technology at TAFE, and said she wanted to build a career in the traditionally male-dominated world of motorsport.

Ms Kranhold said she had always loved motorsport, and used to watch the races with her father.

"I was always interested in knowing how the cars can be so fast and how the pit mechanics can work so quickly," she said.

"I just love how they sound, how they perform, and I've always just wanted to know how they operate, what they do differently to other cars."
