How Gran Turismo Sport plans to change motorsport - Drive

4334921 how-gran-turismo-sport-plans-to-change-motorsport-drive

Developing one of the world's most popular video games is no easy task.

But that is the goal Japanese game developer, Kazunori Yamauchi, set about accomplishing when he started work on the first Gran Turismo game 25 years ago.

Now with the release of the franchise's long-awaited seventh edition, Gran Turismo Sport, Yamauchi and his team has hit new heights in excellence in gameplay.

However, the Gran Tursimo supremo has also played-up the importance of the PlayStation-only gaming franchise in the future of real-world motorsport.

The rising popularity of eSports has shown the potential of motorsport themed games around the globe and how that popularity can be converted into interest in real-world racing, along with highlighting the skill of many would-be track dynamos.

The Kiwi driver secured a seat in the four-car line up for Prodrive Racing Australia.

Stanaway, 26, will drive the No. 56 Ford Falcon FG X next year in the first of a multi-year deal with the team.

He has already impressed with the team this year, co-winning the Sandown 500 with Cameron Waters.

“Obviously it’s good to have everything ready,” Stanaway said.

“It’s been coming along for a while, but it’s good to finally have the deal done. It’s been a childhood dream for me to race in Supercars, so it’s great to check that off the bucket list.”

It will be Stanaway's first full season in a championship since 2014 when he competed in the international GP3 series.

“The first objective is always just to get into the series, but there’s a big difference between participating in the sport and being successful,” he added.

“I’m aware that I’ve got a long road ahead of me and a lot to learn,...

'Peak hour of power' set to take over Adelaide streets for motorsport festival - CarAdvice

4334925 peak-hour-of-power-set-to-take-over-adelaide-streets-for-motorsport-festival-caradvice

The Adelaide Motorsport Festival will be taking to the streets next week, as part of the ‘peak hour of power’. Featuring the likes of Craig Lowndes, Garth Tander, Cam Waters and Troy Bayliss piloting an eye-popping array of classic racers, the procession will work its way through traffic on its way to a party on Gouger Street, Adelaide.

We experienced this craziness first-hand in 2016, where we sat side-by-side with historical Formula One cars, driven by ex-F1 champions, on the public road. Perhaps more entertaining than the cars, though, was the public’s reaction when a stream of priceless racers rolled past them without any prior warning.

It’s a totally unique idea, and one unlikely to be given the green light in any other state. In fact, there aren’t many places where you’ll see a cavalcade of classic and contemporary cars like this on city streets. There are even fewer places...

The ARRC is emerging as one of the key developmental championships that will develop the MotoGP and Superbike World Championship stars of the future from the Asian region, with next year’s event the first of a two-year deal that will bring the championship to our shores.

Trackside hotel announced for South Australia's The Bend Motorsport Park - CarAdvice

4334931 trackside-hotel-announced-for-south-australia-s-the-bend-motorsport-park-caradvice

Hotel and resort giant Rydges has announced it will open a new four-star trackside hotel at The Bend Motorsport Park, a new $110 million circuit under construction on the site of Mitsubishi’s old test track in South Australia.

The Rydges Pit Lane Hotel won’t be the company’s first toe in the motor oil, with Rydges Bathurst already boasting “uninterrupted views” of Mount Panorama’s Conrod Straight.

At The Bend, the new Rydges hotel will offer 100 rooms in varying sizes and fitouts, forming a major part of an accommodation plan for the park that will host more than 10,000 people as needed.

Fortunately for those with only 91 RON in their veins, each room will benefit from major insulation work and double-glazed windows to block out the noise at nap time.

The vacation giant is getting in early at The Bend, which won’t begin racing on its 7.7-kilometre circuit and supporting sections...

Kubica test raises more questions than answers | Motor Sport ... - Motor Sport

4333569 kubica-test-raises-more-questions-than-answers-motor-sport-motor-sport

It's all gone quiet on the Kubica front – Mark Hughes explains why

What do we know about Robert Kubica’s situation after the desert dust has settled from his Abu Dhabi Williams test?

We know that his best low-fuel lap on the Wednesday (he tested Tuesday morning and Wednesday afternoon) was a 1min 39.4sec and that Felipe Massa qualified the car the previous Saturday with a 1min 38.5sec. But, as ever in F1, it’s a lot more complex than that.

Differences to consider are tyres, engine power, fuel levels, track temperatures.

Kubica did his long runs, fully fuelled up, on Tuesday morning on the 2018 ultra-soft (a tyre reckoned to be softer than the 2017 ultra on which Massa did his first race stint) and for the first 14 laps before Kubica pitted, he averaged 0.6sec faster than Massa’s equivalent laps. But how much was the 2018 tyre faster by than the ’17 version used by Massa? We don’t...

Ferrari threat to quit F1 'real' - Inside Sport

4332569 ferrari-threat-to-quit-f1-real-inside-sport

Marchionne’s decision to bring the Alfa name back to F1 as title sponsor of Sauber came just weeks after he had threatened to quit F1 in the event of the engine rules being ‘dumbed down’ too much.

But Marchionne warned that Alfa’s return to the top echelon of the sport should not be seen as a ringing endorsement by his company of the current state of affairs in F1. At the launch of the Alfa/Sauber team, the Ferrari boss stressed that he remained concerned about the direction the sport was heading.

"We have a dialogue that is evolving, and we still have some time to find points of contact between our differences," said Marchionne at the Alfa launch.

"Our position is clear, though: the agreement that we made with Sauber expires in 2020, just in case Ferrari is not in F1 [after that date].

"This possibility is serious. The differences are not small, but Chase [Carey, boss of new F1 owners...

DETERMINED. Winner. Champion.

Arrogant. Brusque?

Allan Moffat: Climbing The Mountain, the "warts and all" autobiography of Australian motorsport legend Allan Moffat, is two tales screaming down the home straight challenging for the chequered flag: A pedal-to-the-metal insight into the "golden era" of the sport versus, surprisingly, a character assassination of the four-time Bathurst hero.

The early narrative sets a scene instantly recognised as a win-against-the-odds classic - a Canadian family perpetually in motion, a young man who could never settle or integrate, an avenue that offered him freedom from his social barriers.

However, the tale quickly shifts a gear when Moffat lands on Australian shores. Suddenly, the reader is thrust into the "wild west of...

Motor racing - Red Bull junior driver Ticktum wins McLaren F1 test - SBS

4332573 motor-racing-red-bull-junior-driver-ticktum-wins-mclaren-f1-test-sbs

LONDON (Reuters) - Red Bull junior driver Dan Ticktum put McLaren in an awkward position on Sunday after winning a coveted award that includes a Formula One test drive and simulator role with the Woking-based team.

Macau Formula Three Grand Prix winner Ticktum, 18, beat three other young Britons to win the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award.

Previous winners include 2009 Formula One world champion Jenson Button and three times Indianapolis 500 winner Dario Franchitti.

Last year's winner Lando Norris is now the McLaren Formula One reserve driver.

Ticktum, however, has been contracted to rivals Red Bull since the start of the year and has been in that team's simulator already.

McLaren sources told Reuters the prize would be honoured, with Ticktum probably getting to drive a 2013 Formula One car, but a meaningful factory simulator role with them was out of the question.

McLaren and Red Bull...
